Jeter has to share marquee

And now, the end is near. For the career of a certain Yankees shortstop who you might have heard is retiring after this season.

Whether you’re tired of the seemingly endless Derek Jeter farewell tour or can’t get enough of it, watching the New York sports icon play the final game of his storied 20-year career Sunday — at, of all places, Boston’s Fenway Park — will probably even make this Red Sox fan shed a tear.

Jeter won’t be playing shortstop in Boston, he said Thursday night, but said he’ll suit up at designated hitter out of respect for the rivalry and Red Sox fans.

The otherwise meaningless Yankees-Red Sox regular-season finale (10:30 a.m. Sunday, TBS, Channel 7) is one of an array of enticing options on a bountiful weekend feast of sports on TV that includes the Ryder Cup and a plethora of appetizing prep, college and pro football games.

TODAY

■ No. 1 St. John Bosco (Calif.) at No. 2 Bishop Gorman (6 p.m., ESPN, Channel 30): Kick off the weekend by watching a clash of the nation’s top two high school football teams, as ranked by USA Today, on ESPN after the game was moved from ESPNU.

UCLA-bound quarterback Josh Rosen, considered the country’s top recruit at his position, will lead the Braves (3-0) into their nationally televised showdown at Gorman’s Fertitta Field.

The five-time defending state champion Gaels (5-0) are led by UCLA-bound tight end Alize Jones and two sophomore standouts in quarterback Tate Martell and receiver Tyjon Lindsey. A win over St. John Bosco, the defending California state champs, would put Gorman in position to claim the mythical national title.

SATURDAY

■ No. 6 Texas A&M vs. Arkansas (12:30 p.m., CBS, Channel 8): The Aggies (4-0) haven’t missed a beat without Johnny Football, as quarterback Kenny Hill has emerged as an early Heisman Trophy contender with 1,359 yards and 13 touchdowns, with one interception, through four games.

Expect a shootout in this showdown at the Dallas Cowboys’ home stadium in Arlington, Texas, as Texas A&M is second in the nation in scoring, at 55.3 points per game, and the resurgent Razorbacks (3-1) are third, at 48.8 ppg.

Other top college football games to watch are Missouri at No. 13 South Carolina (4 p.m., ESPN, Channel 30), No. 8 Notre Dame at Syracuse (5 p.m., ABC, Channel 13) and Oregon State at No. 18 Southern California (7:30 p.m., ESPN, Channel 30).

SUNDAY

■ Ryder Cup (4 a.m. to 10 a.m., NBC, Channel 3): Whether you’re still up from Saturday night or waking up Sunday morning, the final round of the links showdown between the U.S. and Europe at Gleneagles Resort in Perthshire, Scotland, promises to be a pressure-packed event worth watching.

The favored Europeans, who won the 2012 Ryder Cup in Medinah, Ill., feature four of the top six golfers in the world rankings — including Rory McIlroy (No. 1) and Sergio Garcia (No. 3).

Jim Furyk (No. 4) is the highest-ranked golfer for the Americans, who will be without Tiger Woods. Not that that’s necessarily a bad thing. The last time Woods didn’t play in the Ryder Cup was in 2008, the last year the U.S. won the event.

Setting the stage for the showdown, Phil Mickelson answered a question Wednesday about whether the U.S. squad was as tight-knit as the Europeans by making a crack about McIlroy’s lawsuit against Ryder Cup teammate Graeme McDowell’s management company.

“Well, not only are we able to play together, we also don’t litigate against each other, and that’s a real plus, I feel, heading into this week,” Mickelson said.

■ Philadelphia Eagles at San Francisco 49ers (1:25 p.m., Fox, Channel 5): The Eagles (3-0) are one of the NFL’s three remaining unbeaten teams and the only one in action this week, as the Arizona Cardinals (3-0) and Cincinnati Bengals (3-0) have an early bye, along with the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks.

Philadelphia is the first team in NFL history to win its first three games despite trailing by at least 10 points in each.

The 49ers are off to a 1-2 start for the second straight season and looking to avoid their worst start since going 0-5 in 2010.

The other NFL games on local TV are the New Orleans Saints at Dallas Cowboys (5:20 p.m., NBC, Channel 3), the Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears (10 a.m., Fox, Channel 5) and the Carolina Panthers at Baltimore Ravens (10 a.m., CBS, Channel 8).
