Anthony Bennett signs with Toronto

The Toronto Raptors on Monday officially signed former UNLV standout Anthony Bennett, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it was reported last week that the forward walked away from the Minnesota Timberwolves with a $3.65 million buyout and agreed to sign with the Raptors for $947,276.

Bennett, 22, was scheduled to make $5.8 million this season with the Timberwolves before the buyout. He became a free agent when he cleared waivers on Friday.

The 6-foot-8, 245-pounds Bennett averaged 5.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 15.7 minutes in 57 games last season with the Timberwolves. He has appeared in 109 career NBA games, averaging 4.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 14.3 minutes.

The native of Toronto was the first Canadian-born player selected with the top pick in the NBA draft when he was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was dealt on Aug. 23, 2014, to Minnesota in a three-team trade as part of the Kevin Love deal.
