Clemson, Alabama, Okla., Michigan State face off in College Football Playoffs

As expected, the College Football Playoff will feature the four conference champions for the second consecutive year.

ACC champion Clemson, SEC champion Alabama, Big Ten champion Michigan State and Big 12 champion Oklahoma are the best teams in the country and will play for the national championship.

There was no drama for the CFP selection committee after Saturday's conference title games, which announced its choices on Sunday after deliberating throughout the weekend in Grapevine, Texas.

Clemson, the only remaining unbeaten team in the FBS, retained the No. 1 spot in the committee's rankings after beating North Carolina 45-37 on Saturday night.

The Tigers, seeking their first national title since 1981, will face No. 4 Oklahoma on Dec. 31 in a CFP semifinal in the Orange Bowl.

Alabama, which won its second consecutive SEC championship Saturday with a 29-15 win over against Florida, finished No. 2 in the committee's final rankings.

The Crimson Tide will face No. 3 Michigan State on Dec. 31 in the Cotton Bowl Classic.

Alabama is the only repeat participant from the inaugural playoff and will be seeking its fourth national title under Nick Saban. The Tide fell to eventual national champion Ohio State last year in a playoff semifinal at the Sugar Bowl.

Michigan State, which rallied to beat Iowa 16-13 on Saturday night to claim its second Big Ten championship in the past three seasons, will be seeking their first national championship since 1966.

Oklahoma didn't play Saturday but beat Oklahoma State 58-23 the previous week to win the Big 12 championship. The Sooners are aiming for their first national title since 2000.

The winners of the two semifinals will meet on Jan. 11 in the College Football Playoff National Championship, held at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.
