Dolphins suspend DE Shelby following arrest

Arrested and tased three times by Fort Lauderdale Police on Sunday, defensive end Derrick Shelby has been suspended by the Miami Dolphins.

Shelby was asked to leave Cyn Nightclub for “touching females without permission” and charged with trespassing and resisting arrest on Sunday.

“We were disappointed to learn about Derrick’s arrest,” head coach Joe Philbin said in a statement. “Everyone in this organization is held to high standards of conduct and professionalism. Based on my conversations with Derrick and the information we have thus far, Derrick will be placed on Indefinite Club Suspension. When we have completed all of the necessary diligence, we will make a final determination on his discipline.”

The FLPD first took Shelby to Broward General Hospital before booking. Police arrested Shelby because he became aggressive when he ignored “multiple verbal commands” as offiers asked him to leave the club. Police used a taser on Shelby three times to get him “under control” and his booking mug shot show his lip bloodied and face bruised.

Shelby’s lawyer claims police used excessive force, causing the visible damage to his face.
