LEFTOVERS: A-Rod doubles his pleasure

Among the active leaders for double plays grounded into, New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez also probably tops the list in getting doubled up off the field.

According to the book “House of Outrageous Fortune: Fifteen Central Park West, The World’s Most Powerful Address,” A-Rod has a passion for prostitutes and preferred they’d come in pairs to the $30,000-per-month apartment he rented.

A building worker told author Michael Gross, “He got hookers all the time. Usually two at a time, two times a week. One time he had two go up, they came down and left, and 10 minutes later, (girlfriend) Cameron Diaz walks in.”

Gross writes that the apartment — where Rodriguez’s neighbors included Denzel Washington, Sting and Bob Costas — “became A-Rod’s home plate,” where he scored with Madonna and Kate Hudson, as well as Diaz. “But apparently they weren’t enough for A-Rod.”

Diaz should take heart that, even after Rodriguez had Destiny and Desiree, there was still something about Mary.

■ COOL YOUR JETS — On the subject of sex, late comedian Rodney Dangerfield once said, “All you hear about today is sex, sex, sex. I’ll tell ya, with sex, I’ve had it up to here. But not lately.”

The New York Jets can relate, as coach Rex Ryan apparently instructed his players to refrain from having sex this week in an attempt to beat the rival New England Patriots.

Jets kick returner and wideout Josh Cribbs said Ryan told his players in a team meeting Wednesday they need to be well-rested for Sunday’s game, instructing them to “Rest your legs, you go home, don’t do nothing for your wife. Say, ‘Baby, next week.’ You’ll take out the trash next week.”

But defensive end Sheldon Richardson and others thought Ryan’s comments implied a ban on bedroom activities as well. “Most definitely,” a grinning Richardson told the New York Daily News.

A smiling Ryan said Thursday that wasn’t the case.

“I did not tell our players that they couldn’t have sex,” he said. “Somebody misinterpreted the message apparently.”

Leave it to a man with a well-documented foot fetish to put his hoof in his mouth again. When it comes to the Pats, Ryan just can’t help himself.

“He gets a little pep in his step when the Patriots come around,” Richardson said. “He’s itching to beat ’em. He gets a little itch you want to scratch.”

If the itch is on someone’s foot, Ryan would be happy to scratch it for them.

■ PINK HAZE — Utah Jazz rookies Rudy Gobert and Ian Clark were forced to paint their nails sparkly pink as part of the team’s rookie hazing.

The NBA has changed a lot since the days of Dennis Rodman, who used to wear nail polish as a normal part of his gameday attire.

■ LAST WORD — Leave it to the Ol’ Ball Coach to take a thinly veiled jab at recently fired Southern California coach Lane Kiffin, who spent one season at Tennessee before bolting for Los Angeles.

Noting he’ll coach at the Volunteers’ Neyland Stadium today for the 14th time, South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said, “I’ve coached there more than some of their head coaches.”
