Updated August 30, 2017 - 5:49 pm

On Oct. 7, Kevin Lee and Tony Ferguson will headline UFC 216 in Las Vegas, UFC announced on Tuesday. The top-ranked fighters will do battle for the interim UFC lightweight championship.

Ferguson has won nine fights in a row with six of those performances earning post-fight bonus honors. He was expected to face Khabib Nurmagomedov for the interim title in March at UFC 209. However, Nurmagomedov was hospitalized and the bout was scratched.

According to UFC president Dana White, Nurmagomedov was injured and unable to make the rescheduled date with Ferguson. Lee was then booked to collide with “El Cucuy.”

Lee, 24, trains in Las Vegas and has won nine of his last 10 bouts.
