Raiders QB Derek Carr exits game after taking knee to back against Broncos

Updated October 1, 2017 - 7:10 pm

The Raiders have bigger problems than just losing two straight games.

Quarterback Derek Carr sustained a back injury during the Raiders’ 16-10 loss against the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

A scrambling Carr was twisted and pulled before taking a knee to the back from Broncos defensive end Shelby Harris during the third quarter. Carr immediately grabbed his back and stayed on the ground for an extended period.

The Raiders announced Carr had a back injury shortly after his exit. Backup quarterback EJ Manuel replaced Carr.

Carr was evaluated on the sidelines and then taken to the locker room. The Raiders (2-2) were trailing the Broncos 16-7 when Carr went down.

The Raiders’ offense struggled for most of the day. Carr was 10 of 18 for 143 yards and a touchdown.

Manuel threw a costly interception during the fourth quarter to seal the win for the Broncos (3-1).
