Southern Nevada Fishing Report, Feb. 25, 2016

• LAKE MEAD — Striper fishing has been good in the Overton Arm. Fishermen have been catching fish using crankbaits in shad patterns and jigs. Boat anglers have had the best luck in water ranging from 30 to 120 feet deep. Bass fishing has been slow out of Callville Bay, though soft plastics have caught fish in the shallows.

LAKE MOHAVE — Fishing reports are hit and miss. Trout imitations and similar swimbaits generally are productive for striped bass. The early mornings have been good for stripers at the north end of Mohave, where angers have reeled in fish tipping the scales at 5 to 10 pounds. The winds have been picking up throughout the day, so get out early for the best success.

LAUGHLIN — Rainbow trout plants on the Arizona side of the river have made it quite the fishing spot. Rotary Park has been a hot spot recently, with anglers catching limits of trout. One angler reeled in a 3-pound fish using night crawlers for bait. Striped bass generally can be found pursuing the trout.

LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS — All urban fishing ponds were stocked with rainbow trout on Feb. 16. Boulder City, Lorenzi and Sunset Park ponds are scheduled to receive more fish sometime this week. The usual bait choices of PowerBait, Power Eggs and worms have been bringing in fish. Be sure to discard unwanted fishing line in recycling bins or trash containers.

KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA — The reservoirs are covered with slushy ice, making for unsafe conditions over most of the area. Dacey Reservoir has open water and, if current weather conditions continue, soon should be free of ice.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR — Heavy runoff has made fishing problematic this past week. The water is murky. Ice conditions are good over most of the reservoir, but the south side is holding up better than the north side. Action for rainbow trout has been hit and miss. One angler limited out on rainbow trout while using rainbow PowerBait.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR — The reservoir has patchy ice conditions, with some open water allowing moderate fishing opportunities along the shoreline. Early-season runoff has filled the reservoir, and water is going through the spillway.

UPCOMING EVENTS — The annual Councilman Ricky Barlow Fishing Derby for kids will be held March 5 at Lorenzi Park. Check-in will begin at 8 a.m. Contact 702-229-5443 for more information or to register a large group.
