Memorial service set for Saturday for former UNLV player Bryce Dejean-Jones

A memorial service for former UNLV basketball player Bryce Dejean-Jones, who was killed during Memorial Day weekend in Dallas, will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at First AME Church of Los Angeles.

The service at the church, located at 2270 S. Harvard Blvd., is open to the public.

Dejean-Jones played for the Rebels in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons, and averaged 11.8 points and 4.1 rebounds. He began his college career at Southern California, and after graduating from UNLV with a degree in sociology, ended it at Iowa State.

After going undrafted in 2015, Dejean-Jones eventually hooked on with the New Orleans Pelicans. He started 11 of 14 games late in the season, averaging 5.6 points and 3.4 rebounds. Dejean-Jones signed a three-year contract in February.

Dejean-Jones, 23, was fatally shot in abdomen while reportedly trying to enter the wrong apartment early in the morning on May 28.
