Oregon pulls away in 2nd half to beat UNLV, 83-63

PORTLAND, Ore. — Tyrell Green launched a 3-pointer, and it found the bottom of the net with 2 seconds left to bring UNLV to within four points of Oregon at halftime.

An upset in the making?

Not quite. Whatever good feelings UNLV took into the locker room quickly evaporated when the second half began, and the No. 22 Ducks ran away with an 83-63 victory Saturday night at Moda Center.

Oregon (10-2) won its eighth consecutive game, and the Ducks have held 11 straight opponents to less than 70 points. UNLV (6-5) has lost three of its past four. One was a 94-45 humiliation to Duke a week earlier at T-Mobile Arena.

At least this game never got that bad for the Rebels, and they had hope when they went into halftime trailing 37-33. But Oregon opened the second half with a 16-2 run and never looked back.

Jovan Mooring led UNLV with 20 points, Green added 18 and Kris Clyburn 10.

Oregon, which outrebounded UNLV 39-23, was led by Findlay Prep product Dillon Brooks’ 20 points.

Both teams were shorthanded in the frontcourt. Dwayne Morgan (shoulder) and Christian Jones (ankle) missed their second game in a row for UNLV, and the Ducks were without Chris Boucher, whose left foot was in a boot. Boucher was coming off a 23-point, 19-rebound performance on Tuesday against Montana.
