Reinhardt says he’s headed to USC
Former UNLV basketball player Katin Reinhardt announced today that he is transferring to the University of Southern California.
The 6-foot-5-inch shooting guard started 34 games for the Rebels as a freshman and was the fourth-leading scorer at 10.1 points per game. He was second on the team in minutes per game (29.2) and led UNLV in 3-pointers made (65) and attempted (185).
He received a release from his scholarship on Monday.
Primarily a catch-and-shoot guard at UNLV, Reinhardt told coach Dave Rice that he wants to play point guard because that would enhance his chances of playing in the NBA.
The Rebels already have a crowd at the point for next season with sophomore Daquan Cook, incoming freshman Kendall Smith and junior college transfers Jelan Kendrick and DeVille Smith.
At USC, Reinhardt would play for new Trojans coach Andy Enfield, who took Florida Gulf Coast to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament. His Eagles team featured a fast-paced offense.
Reinhardt, who attended Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif., backed out of an oral commitment to USC as a high school junior.
