Big brands, big names highlight Dillard’s grand opening at Downtown Summerlin

Dillard’s in Downtown Summerlin will celebrate its grand opening this week with six fashion shows, celebrity appearances and prizes.

“Dillard’s is so excited to be part of Downtown Summerlin. We have selected from the best brands to provide a merchandise mix we believe will really speak to our clients. Brands include Michael Kors, Vince Camuto, Eileen Fisher, Karen Kane, Komarov, Antonio Melani, MAC, Bobbi Brown, Chanel, Dior, Hugo Boss, Daniel Cremieux, Thomas Dean, Polo, Kate Spade, Coach, Brahmin, Ugg, Cole Haan, Frye, Kitchen Aide to name a few,” store Manager Andie Armstrong said.

Armstrong moved to Las Vegas from Arizona where she managed Dillard’s stores in Prescott and Paradise Valley. She moved with husband Pete and their dog, Fenway. She said she was excited to open the store at 11011 Sage Park Drive in Downtown Summerlin.

“I’m personally looking forward to exploring all the Summerlin community has to offer.”

The 200,000-square-foot department store opened Oct. 4, and will hold its grand opening Oct. 9-12.

The Summerlin Dillard’s will give away more than $42,000 in gifts, Armstrong said. About 7,000 gifts will go to customers when they purchase items in various departments. There also will be free chances to win 120 prizes over the next few days.

The store will employ 250 workers. Most of those will be full-time positions.

Here are some of the events slated for the next few days:

THURSDAY, OCT. 9

RIBBON CUTTING: 9:30 a.m — east entrance with music from the Palo Verde High School marching band. The first 200 customers who visit Dillard’s at 10 a.m. opening will enjoy free Godiva chocolates.

FASHION, SECOND LEVEL: 11 a.m. — fashion show and meet-and-greet with Monica Botkier, Botkier Handbag designer; 1 p.m., fashion show and Q&A with Janie Bryant, Mad Men Costume designer; 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., junior and contemporary fashion show and meet-and-greet with Rachel Mortenson, Marciano/Guess model

COSMETICS, FIRST LEVEL: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., tips from Estee Lauder makeup artist Derek Miller; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Clinique’s skin expert Rhonda Harvey; 10 a.m., MAC Brooke Shield’s campaign; 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., St. Tropez brand ambassador and tanning expert Sophie Evans; 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Osmotics founder Francine Porter; 11 a.m to 6 p.m., Lancome’s color directors Maria Roybal and Brenda Garcia-Castro; 11 a.m to 7 p.m., Diorshow artist Robert Steven Munoz
