WINNERS OF HERITAGE PARADE ANNOUNCED

The city of Henderson has announced the winners from the April 21 Henderson Heritage Parade.

The first-place winner was The Journey Church, which won $1,000; the second-place winner was Campbell's Can, which won $750; and the third-place winner was Foothill High School's float, which won $500. The People's Choice Award went to Burkholder Middle School, which won $500.

Recycle unwanted paint, batteries
and more at Henderson shines

Henderson Shines, a community cleanup and recycling day, is scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Central Christian Church, 1001 New Beginnings Drive. Residents can dispose of old paint, oil, batteries, electronic waste, tires, cell phones and gently used items such as clothing and small appliances.

Opportunity Village plans to provide free on-site paper shredding.

BUSINESS SERIES OFFERS INSIGHT
TO SPANISH-SPEAKING MARKETS

The next Henderson Chamber Roadmap to Success Series workshop is slated for 7:30 a.m. May 17 at the Henderson Business Resource Center, 112 S. Water St.

The seminar is scheduled to discuss the importance of the Spanish-speaking market. The event is free for Henderson Chamber of Commerce members and $25 for nonmembers.

Desert Newcomers Club
plans Spring coffees, fashion show

The Desert Newcomers Club Inc., a social and recreational club for women who have lived in the area for three years or less, is planning a welcome coffee at 10 a.m. May 31 at the Green Valley Methodist Church, 2200 E. Robindale Road, at the northwest corner of Green Valley Parkway and Robindale Road.

The group also is planning to host its Spring Fashion Show May 16 at the Brio Tuscan Grille at Town Square Las Vegas, 6653 Las Vegas Blvd. South. The event is to include a luncheon from
11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. At 1 p.m., Ann Taylor's The Loft plans to show fashions and some jewelry, with club members participating as models.

In August, the club plans to have open membership for all women who live in the Las Vegas area.

DESERT H.O.P.E. to host bowl-A-Thon
to benefit S.A.F.E. House

Desert H.O.P.E. Inc. is scheduled to sponsor its seventh annual Bowl-A-Thon to benefit S.A.F.E. House from 10 a.m. to noon May 21 at the South Point Bowling Center, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South. There will be bowling prizes and door prizes. Bring a $20 donation or $20 in pledges to bowl. The South Point has donated lanes for this event.

HENDERSON OFFERS KIDS NIGHT OUT

The city of Henderson is hosting a Kids Night Out from 6 to 8:30 p.m. May 25 at the Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road.

The event is open to children ages 6 to 12 and costs $5 per child.

Golf tournament to help kids
with heart conditions

The fourth annual We "Heart" Maggie Golf Tournament has been scheduled for May 26 at the Black Mountain Golf & Country Club, 500 S. Greenway Road. The event will benefit the Children's Heart Foundation, a Nevada-based nonprofit that offers support to children living in Nevada who have heart conditions.

Golfer registration begins at 9 a.m. The tournament will be a scramble format with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. There will be family activities from 2 to 3:45 p.m., with the banquet and awards ceremony at 4 p.m.

Golf registration and meal is $125. People who cannot attend can register as a Virtual Golfer for $50.

The tournament is hosted by CHF board members John and Mollie Stewart in memory of their daughter and heart baby, Marguerite Anne Stewart, who died in July 2008.
