Manager relies on business sense, customer service to pull Centennial dealership through tough times

Centennial Buick GMC Mazda General Manager Jan Sheinfeld has a well-rounded look at the car business considering his background. An eight-year veteran of the industry, Sheinfeld represents a unique look at today's modern management personnel.

Now 33, the native of New York has a bachelor's degree in finance from University of Nevada, Las Vegas, along with several years working as a finance director in Southern Nevada.

"Nowadays, you must have a good business sense in this industry," analyzed Sheinfeld, who moved to Las Vegas in 1994. "Management must watch every dollar and you must have a real business model in force. Every decision counts."

Sheinfeld entered the car business in Southern Nevada after meeting an executive who wanted to take him under his wing. The rest is history.

"Every customer and every deal is different," said Sheinfeld of his passion for the car business. "I excel because I love coming to work every day. The business changes every day."

Sheinfeld has an interesting, analytical look at the car business in Southern Nevada.

"The people in this industry with good business sense will continue to grow. The car industry will grow due to the re-engineering of thought of the product.

"There is a new thought process dealing with your employee and in turn, how your employee takes care of the customer base in Southern Nevada. The old way of doing business does not work anymore and people like us need to be cognizant of that.''

Good customer service is more vital now than ever before Sheinfeld said.

"It's not just a tagline anymore," Sheinfeld said. "You can make a good living in this business as long as you are dedicated. There is definitely the capability to make six figures annually."

Sheinfeld is disciplined to take care of himself.

"I spend my time away with my two boys," he said. "I also work out every day when possible. I am always mentally working, so it's important to relax once in awhile."

Sheinfeld admires the staff of Centennial Buick GMC Mazda and also lauds the customer base.

"We have an excellent staff and and a great store," said Sheinfeld of the dealership, which opened Aug. 15. "We have risen to the No. 1 GMC Buick Mazda dealership in Southern Nevada. We are No. 1 for the district for Mazda this month, and our other franchises continue to grow.

"We want to thank our customers from throughout the valley for making us their No. 1 Buick GMC Mazda dealership in Nevada."
