Newborn baby found buried in yard tests positive for meth

A newborn baby found buried by his mother in a South Carolina backyard tested positive for methamphetamine and hydrocodone, the York County coroner said.

The baby's mother, Tara Ostrowski, 37, is facing charges of unlawful conduct toward a child, WYFF reported. She told police the baby was alive after its birth sometime in late May.

On May 28, about a week after the birth, police investigated the incident and Ostrowski admitted to burying the baby in the backyard. The coroner ruled his death a homicide but said the cause of death could not be determined.

Ostrowski was being held without bond at Moss Detention Center on Tuesday.
