Planet Hyundai consultant keeps his customers happy

When Tony Fisher tired of driving a truck in Southern California about a decade ago, he decided to research the car business. He never looked back.

"My first month in Long Beach I was the top salesman in the dealership that had 65 sales consultants," recalls the 44-year-old Fisher. "I found the allure of the car business to be both interesting and profitable at the same time.

"Even more important, though, was the fact that I got a great thrill out of helping someone purchase a vehicle. When I see a young kid jump up and down after helping him purchase his first car, that excites me more than the money earned."

He believes, however, that once the sale is concluded it's the job of the sales consultant to stay in touch with the customer.

"We must be accessible to the customer," said Fisher, who parlays a very positive outlook on life with his career in the car business. "When you're in the people business, you must have fun with your customers. I want my customers to become extended members of my family. I treat all of them as though they're my family."

In 2006, Fisher was featured in the nationally acclaimed Automotive News, which is considered the leading publication for the car business. A year later, Fisher was named the top sales consultant in the nation for Hyundai registering 469 new-car sales and 100 preowned transactions.

"The years 2006 and 2007 had to be two of the biggest years of my life," reflects Fisher, a quiet individual who lets his results speak for him. "They literally vaulted me in the car business and, in 2008, I was No. 1 in the Western Region for Hyundai. I think it goes without saying that I'm not going anywhere, that's for sure. I love my customers and the car business. We have a lot of fun."

Fisher recently cut back his schedule only slightly although he still works about 55 hours a week.

"I look forward to coming to work every day," he said. "I'm a workaholic. I can't wait to get here. We are able to meet many interesting people."

Fisher said the increase in popularity by Hyundai in the past few years has made his job that much easier.

"Hyundai makes an incredible vehicle and you cannot beat the 10-year, 100,000- mile warranty," he said. "I never worry about my customers when they buy a new Hyundai."

Fisher has a long line of satisfied customers including Charles Pierce, along with Glenn and Liz Miller.

"He's a wonderful salesman," said Liz Miller. "There is no pressure and no hassle at all with Tony. He lets you make up your own mind after providing you with all the facts about the particular vehicle."

"I was his first customer when he started," said Pierce, who works for the Clark County Library District. "I came back the next day and wanted to speak with Tony. I sat down with him and found him to be an extremely pleasant young man. I'm very proud and happy for him to see the success he has had over the years.

"I have now purchased two cars from him and I would absolutely recommend him to any of my friends or co-workers. I called him a couple of weeks ago and told him I am considering the purchase of another one."

The Millers have purchased six cars from Fisher over the years.

Planet Hyundai is co-owned by long-time Las Vegan Ron Coury. The dealership was purchased in March of 2010.
