Special needs student expelled from school over toy paper gun

An 8-year-old special needs student was expelled from his NYC school earlier this month after he rolled up a piece of paper and used it as a toy gun.

According to the New York Post, the school claims the boy, Asher Palmer, said he also threatened to kill a girl in a different incident. Asher has been diagnosed with ADHD and has problems communicating.

“Asher is exactly the type of student Lang [School] is supposed to be serving,” the student’s mom, Melinda Spadone, told the New York Post. “Why they did this doesn’t make sense.”

PIX11 reports that the school principal recommended that Asher be homeschooled next year.

“I am stunned … We did not invest $120,000 toward Asher’s success for a five-month period,” Asher’s mom wrote in an email to the principal, according to the New York Post. “It was understood, and, in fact, contractually agreed, that Asher would be returning next year.’’
