A 17-year-old Virginia high school student was arrested Wednesday morning and charged for allegedly having a Samurai sword at the bus stop and making threats.
The student, who is in the 10th grade at I.C. Norcom High School, was taken into custody by a School Resource Officer after arriving at the school just after 7 a.m., WTKR TV reported.
During an administrative search of the student’s bookbag by school officials in the presence of the school resource officer, a small sword was found.
Students say they were shocked to hear that one of their classmates tried to bring a sword to school.
“I knew about it from the beginning of the morning and it kinda scared me, ” said Cassandra Tynes, a freshman at the school.
He is being charged with brandishing a bladed weapon, possession of a weapon on school property and disorderly conduct.
No one was injured.
He was turned over to the Juvenile Detention Center in Chesapeake where he will await a hearing.
