Faraday Future plans to begin grading at Apex site in June

Electric carmaker Faraday Future plans to begin grading on its $1 billion factory site in late June.

In a statement on Monday, the company said that it is scheduled to have heavy equipment on-site in early June.

The company also announced that it had selected engineering company AECOM as a construction partner for the new facility in the Apex Industrial Park.

“Working alongside FF design and manufacturing, AECOM is responsible for the facility’s architecture, design and construction,” the company said in the statement.

Faraday Future held a groundbreaking at the roughly 900-acre site in April.

The company has been reluctant to give a definitive date for when it expects to begin producing cars at the 3 million-square-foot factory. On Monday, Faraday Future spokeswoman Stacy Morris said the company expects to begin building cars “in the next couple years.”

Also in Monday’s statement, the company said six employees will move into a new office inside North Las Vegas City Hall on June 1. The company plans to have 30 employees working out of the City Hall by the end of 2016.

In December, lawmakers held a special legislative session and approved $215 million in tax incentives to lure the company to the Silver State.

The company expects to hire about 4,500 full-time employees with an average wage of $22 an hour. As part of the deal, at least half of those employees need to be from Nevada.

North Las Vegas spokeswoman Delen Goldberg said Monday that the company had not yet been approved for a grading permit with the city’s public works department.
