Driver arrested on DUI charge after car hits pedestrian near Las Vegas Strip

Police arrested a driver suspected of intoxication after a pedestrian was hit by a car near the Las Vegas Strip Thursday morning.

About 5:10 a.m., a woman was struck by a car at the intersection of East Flamingo Road and South Koval Lane, Metro Lt. Carmen Donegan said.

Evidence at the scene indicated a 2014 Mercedes-Benz, operated by Kiara Joyce, 24, was traveling west on East Flamingo Road at South Koval Lane in the right lane on a green light. A female pedestrian was attempting to cross the crosswalk from the northeast corner to the southeast corner against a pedestrian “Don’t Walk” symbol.

The right front of the Mercedez-Benz struck the woman, police said. She was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where she remains in critical condition.

Police said Joyce showed signs of impairment and was booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

Flamingo was closed between Koval and Howard Hughes Parkway for several hours, according to the Regional Transportation Commission, but it since has reopened.

The collision remains under investigation.
