Child wounded in shooting in northwest Las Vegas

A child was hospitalized after a shooting Sunday night in the northwest valley, Las Vegas police said.

Just before 11:30 p.m., officers responded to the accidental discharge of a firearm inside a home in the 4800 block of White Aspen Avenue, near West Ann Road and North Decatur Boulevard, Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said.

The preteen child was taken to University Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries. Abuse and neglect detectives are investigating the incident, Meltzer said.
