Murphy, Tabish not guilty of murder
Sandy Murphy and Rick Tabish were found not guilty in the murder of Las Vegas gambling heir Ted Binion. The pair were found guilty on three other counts -- conspiracy to commit burglary and/or larceny, burglary and grand larceny. Those
charges were related to the silver dig in Pahrump two days after
Binion's death.
Murphy and Tabish were found not guilty on three counts -- conspiracy to commit murder and/or robbery, murder in the first or second degree and robbery.
The verdict was read just after noon today in Clark County District Court before Judge Joseph Bonaventure. The judge set a sentencing date of Jan. 28.
Ted Binion, whose family controlled Binion's Horseshoe in downtown Las Vegas, was found dead in his home Sept. 17, 1998. In May 2000, his girlfriend, Sandy Murphy, and her lover, Rick Tabish, were convicted of his murder and sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole. In 2003, their murder convictions were overturned and a new trial was ordered. Tabish remains in prison while Murphy was released in December 2003. The second trial began Oct. 11, 2004.
