2 North Las Vegas schools send warning letters home after attempted kidnapping

On his way home from school Monday, a young student said a man tried to kidnap him at Tropical Breeze Park, prompting a North Las Vegas police investigation and written warnings from two nearby schools.

"The male pulled the student into his car," read a letter from Jesse D. Scott elementary, where the student attended. "Law enforcement is aware of the incident and is currently investigating."

School district officials said the student told his mother when he got home, who contacted police and called the school's principal early Tuesday. The message was then shared with neighboring Carroll M. Johnston Middle School as a precaution.

"The incident serves as an important opportunity to remind our students of safe practices when walking to and from our school," the letter continued. "The safety of our students is of the utmost importance."

Anyone with helpful information is asked to call North Las Vegas police at 702-633-9111, CCSD Police at 702-799-5411 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
