Garage fire damages western Las Vegas home

A family is receiving aid from the American Red Cross after their home was damaged by fire Tuesday evening.

The Las Vegas fire department responded to the home at 8044 Kokoma Drive, near Washington Avenue and Cimarron Road, about 8:15 p.m. after receiving several reports that flames were coming from the garage, according to Las Vegas fire department spokesman Timothy Szymanski.

First responders said the flames coming from the three-car garage were nearly as high as the two-story home. The fire was contained within 10 minutes.

Two adults and one teenager in the home were uninjured.

The fire gutted the garage and damaged three cars. Damage is estimated at $45,000, Szymanski said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
