Man flees Henderson police, prompts school lockdown
June 2, 2015 - 2:07 pm
A search for a man who ran from police after a traffic stop caused an uproar in a Henderson neighborhood Tuesday morning.
Henderson police officers stopped a car about 9:50 a.m. at Charter Oak Street and African Violet Avenue, near Pecos Road and Windmill Parkway, department spokeswoman Michelle French said.
The male passenger of the car took off, leading to a lengthy search through the nearby neighborhoods.
Police began going door-to-door and calling residents to make sure he wasn’t hiding in a backyard and to urge them to stay inside their homes, French said.
The search prompted a lockdown at Roberts Elementary School.
The area was cleared and the lockdown lifted about 11:15 a.m. French said. Officers were not able to locate the man. The driver of the car was arrested for driving with a suspended driver’s license and no proof of insurance, French said.
