Man killed in North Las Vegas shooting

Multiple people were inside a North Las Vegas townhouse when a man was shot and killed there Friday afternoon, city police said.

Officers were called just after noon to the 4000 block of Smokey Fog Avenue, where they found the body of a 41-year-old man, Officer Aaron Patty said.

North Las Vegas' first homicide of 2016 followed "some sort of altercation" and wasn't random, Patty said. Police wouldn't say Friday whether they had a suspect in the slaying, but Patty said the shooter fled the scene.

The people inside the home at the time of the shooting included children, Patty said. It wasn't immediately clear whether they were family members, but police believe the victim lived in the townhouse.

The man's name will be released by the Clark County coroner's office once his family is notified.

Anyone with information on the shooting can call police at 702-633-9111. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 and www.crimestoppersofnv.com.

Patty noted that North Las Vegas had a quiet New Year's Eve, only to have the homicide happen hours later.

"This isn't a way to start a new year," Patty said.
