Man shoots at girlfriend, later uses same gun in slaying, authorities say

Marquic Williams fired several shots at his girlfriend's car as she drove away from his Las Vegas apartment with her 10-month-old daughter, authorities said.

Four months later, he was still on the streets with a warrant for his arrest when prosecutors say Williams used the same gun to shoot and kill a 46-year-old man in the parking lot of the same north valley complex.

Williams is being held without bail in the Clark County Detention Center. He faces one count of murder with use of a deadly weapon, one count of conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of discharging a firearm at or into an occupied structure and one count of child abuse, neglect or endangerment with a deadly weapon.

In September, Williams, a 26-year-old known on the streets as "Red," sold meth out of his apartment at 110 W. George Place, and thought Derrick Patterson had broken in and stole his drugs and money, according to Clark County grand jury testimony made public this week.

Williams told a neighbor that he saw Patterson, also known as "Q," walking away from Williams' apartment, and he returned home to find windows smashed and drugs and cash missing.

Williams told the neighbor that he planned to enact revenge. That neighbor said Williams later revealed that he killed Patterson. Homicide detectives said Patterson was shot at least three times — once in the chest, once in the back and once in the arm. Williams asked the neighbor to sell the .38-caliber revolver, but he refused.

After the neighbor detailed Williams story about the killing to police, the man feared for his safety, and the FBI paid him and his mother $3,000 to leave Las Vegas, according to testimony.

Another neighbor, Jesus Naranjo, testified that on Sept. 22 he heard gunshots and saw someone climb into a car that sped away. Naranjo said he was too far away to get a good look at the person.

Authorities said they're still looking for a second suspect in Patterson's death.

While investigating the slaying, authorities linked the revolver to another shooting at the same apartment complex.

Aaliyah Bridges met Williams on a dating website, and brought her 10-month-old daughter, Faith Exum, to his apartment and found him with his child's mother, identified in court documents only as Crystal.

Bridges said she quarreled with the two before she walked away, slashing one of the tires on Williams' car. She didn't think he saw, but as she started to drive away, she saw Williams pull out a handgun.

She heard at least three gunshots, and police later recovered a bullet that had been lodged in her car.

Authorities have not located the revolver, but a forensic analyst testified that markings on the bullets from both shootings matched.

Williams is due in court next week, and he could face additional drug charges.
