Motorcyclist dies after Thursday collision

A 26-year-old motorcyclist died early Friday after a two-vehicle crash the day before near the North Las Vegas Airport, police said.

North Las Vegas police were called about 2:50 p.m. Thursday to the 4000 block of West Carey Avenue, near Rancho Drive, where a motorcycle traveling east on Carey struck a truck headed on Carey and attempting to make a left turn, police said in a new release Friday afternoon.

The motorcyclist, Nicholas Ordonez, of Las Vegas, was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition. He died early Friday, police said.

The 44-year-old driver of the Mitsubishi truck received only minor injuries, police said. He gave his side of the story to police.

"Speed appears to be a factor in this case," police wrote in the release, though they didn't say which driver was speeding. "No charges have been filed at this time as this remains an ongoing investigation."
