NHP reopens I-15 ramp at Cheyenne after chlorine spill

A hazardous material spill has been cleaned up, and the Nevada Highway Patrol has reopened the Cheyenne Avenue on-ramp of Interstate 15.

The Las Vegas fire alarm incident site showed a vehicle-with-hazardous-material alert just after noon on Friday.

“A semi truck was transporting liquid chlorine. When attempting to make a left turn onto the I-15 southbound on-ramp, a container fell over,” trooper Jason Buratczuk said.

The North Las Vegas Fire Department responded to the incident and requested Las Vegas Fire Department’s hazmat team, spokesman Tim Syzmanski said. The hazmat teams have left the scene.

Buratczuk said the spill was not a danger to the public.

“The chlorine turns to powder once it dries,” Buratczuk said.
