Police: Henderson man was shot in face, back by daughter’s mother’s boyfriend

A man who died Monday outside his apartment in Henderson was shot multiple times in the back and face by his child’s mother’s boyfriend, according to police documents.

Krystal Guice, 23, arrived about 1 p.m. Monday to Johnny Dee Haney II’s apartment to pick up their 4-year-old daughter. Haney, 26, was at the apartment with his roommate when Guice knocked on the door.

According to the roommate, Guice asked for a coat and blanket for their daughter and Haney told his roommate he was going to walk the pair to where Guice’s new boyfriend was waiting in her white Dodge Avenger.

Guice and her boyfriend, 25-year-old Deonte “Tae” Coleman, also had a baby together in the past two months, Coleman’s arrest report said.

Within a minute of Guice, Haney and their daughter leaving the apartment, the roommate described hearing about five loud gunshots. He ran outside, found Haney lying on the ground and saw the Dodge speed out of the complex west on La Mesa, swerve around a car at a stop sign and turn north after running the stop sign.

Henderson police found Guice and Coleman about 2:15 a.m. Tuesday at a northwest valley apartment near North Hualapai Way and Gowan Road, about 25 miles from where the shooting took place.

Coleman refused to talk to police after he was read his Miranda rights, the report said.

Guice, however, admitted to jumping into the passenger seat of the Dodge and dropping Coleman off at an unknown gas station before she parked and abandoned the car in an apartment complex in an attempt to hide it from police, Coleman’s arrest report said.

After several hours of interrogation, Guice told police that Haney approached her car and Coleman had gotten out of the driver’s seat. She heard several gunshots but never saw Coleman with a gun, she told police in Coleman’s arrest report.

“She did however admit to seeing Johnny collapsing to the ground,” police wrote in the report.

Police also noted in the report that when officers talked to Guice and Haney’s daughter at the northwest valley apartment, the 4-year-old said “Tae shot my dad and killed him.”

The girl told police Coleman exited the car wearing gloves and then shot her dad, the report said. Her mother was in close proximity to her dad when he was shot, she told police.

Guice and Coleman were arrested and taken to the Henderson Detention Center. They face one charge each of murder with a deadly weapon.
