Sunday morning bicycle crash proves fatal

A 62-year-old bicyclist died after being struck by a car in the east valley Sunday morning, according to Las Vegas police.

Authorities were called about 8:30 a.m. to the 100 block of Lamb Boulevard, near Charleston Boulevard.

William McCarley, of Las Vegas, was on a Mongoose mountain bike travelling on Lamb when he suddenly entered another lane and was hit by a 2008 Dodge Challenger driven by a 74-year-old Ely, Nev. man, police said.

McCarley died on the scene, police said.

The crash happened just across the street from the scene of a similar incident Saturday evening.

A man suffered minor injuries after being struck by a vehicle outside the marked crosswalk near the intersection of Manor Green Lane and North Lamb Boulevard about 5 p.m. Saturday.

It was initially reported that that bicyclist had suffered critical injuries, but his condition improved hours later at University Medical Center, police said.

The two crashes were not related, Metro spokesman officer Jesse Roybal said, but took place in nearly the same location.

Roybal says there was a third accident in the area Sunday about 1:30 a.m. when a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. The person’s injuries were not life-threatening.

This was the 6th traffic-related death in Metro’s jurisdiction so far this year.
