Woman dead following crash at Sahara, Las Verdes

A female pedestrian is dead after being struck by an SUV on Sahara Avenue near Las Verdes Street, according to Las Vegas police.

Medical crews and police were dispatched to the collision scene at 6:05 p.m. Sunday, Metro Lt. Jeff Goodwin said.

A 2000 Isuzu Rodeo, driven by Ronald Ewart, 79, of Las Vegas, was traveling east on Sahara Avenue, in the left travel lane west of Las Verdes Street, according to a Metro release.

The female pedestrian, whose name and age have not yet been released, was standing in the center median approximately 38 feet west of Las Verdes Street. As the Isuzu approached Las Verdes Street, the woman stepped into the left travel lane and was struck, police said.

She was taken to University Medical Center where she was pronounced dead by medical personnel.

This is the seventh traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction for 2016.

The driver of the SUV stayed at the scene, and Metro is investigating, Goodwin said.
