Grass-roots support puts Kihuen in strong position

The campaign of Ruben Kihuen, the Democratic candidate in the 4th Congressional District race, raised more than $465,000 in the year’s second quarter.

The campaign also reported $230,000 cash on hand at the end of June, when the quarter closed, figures the campaign released Monday show. The campaign’s voluntary release came before public quarterly campaign finance reports are due to be filed with the Federal Election Commission. That deadline is Friday.

In a statement, Kihuen campaign manager Dave Chase said Kihuen’s grass-roots support that helped his June 14 primary victory is putting the campaign in a strong position to take back the seat.

Kihuen is running against U.S. Rep. Cresent Hardy, R-Nev., who is seeking a second term. Hardy’s campaign hasn’t yet released financial data for the quarter ended June 30. Hardy’s most recent filing reported $681,593 cash on hand on May 25.
