Northern Nevada congressional candidate Evans airs radio spot

CARSON CITY — Democratic candidate Chip Evans, who faces an uphill climb in Northern Nevada’s heavily Republican 2nd Congressional District, is airing new radio ads introducing himself to voters.

The 60-second spots in English and Spanish began airing on radio stations Aug. 18 and will run through Sunday, his campaign said.

Titled “I believe,” the spots highlight Evans’ stance on various issues. In the spots, he says he supports equal pay for women and a “living wage” for American workers. He supports the Second Amendment of the Constitution and what he calls “common sense” background checks for gun purchases.

Evans also says he supports expanding Social Security, protecting U.S. borders and passing comprehensive immigration reform, and making higher education and technical training affordable to everyone.

“My core belief is that people come first, not corporations, not party, and that it’s time we get stuff done,” he says.

Evans is a former chairman of the Washoe County Democratic Party and liberal talk show host. He is running against Rep. Mark Amodei, the Republican incumbent first elected to the House in a 2011 special election.

Nevada’s 2nd District covers the northern third of the state. No Democrat has ever held the seat since it was created in 1981. Republicans outnumber Democrats by more than 40,000.
