Ex-51s deGrom, Matz to start for Mets at Big League Weekend

When the New York Mets come to Las Vegas next week, two familiar faces will take the mound.

Jacob deGrom and Steven Matz, both former 51s, will start at Big League Weekend at Cashman Field, according to ESPN’s Adam Rubin.

The Chicago Cubs and Mets will play exhibition games March 31 and April 1. The teams met in the National League Championship Series last season.

DeGrom pitched for the 51s for parts of 2013 and 2014, and Matz went 7-4 with a 2.19 ERA in 90.1 innings at Triple-A Las Vegas last season before a June call-up.

Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant, last year’s National League Rookie of the Year, is from Las Vegas.
