Padres acquire Braves outfielder Upton

The San Diego Padres acquired outfielder Justin Upton from the Atlanta Braves, multiple media outlets reported Friday.

Other details of the deal were not immediately available, but the Padres reportedly may ship three prospects in return for the 27-year-old right fielder.

Upton will join a Padres outfield that includes slugger Matt Kemp, acquired this month in a five-player trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Upton, 27, hit .270 for Atlanta in 2014, with 29 home runs and 102 RBIs. He will make $14.5 million in 2015 and is set for free agency in 2016.
