5 high school football games to watch this week

Here’s a look at some of Friday’s most interesting high school football games.

Bishop Gorman at St. John Bosco (at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Long Beach, California) — Another week, another big test for the Gaels, who remain atop USA Today’s national rankings.

St. John Bosco has yet to allow a point in two victories this season, and the Braves are ranked No. 7 nationally by USA Today.

Gorman’s offense is expected to get a boost this week with the return of running back Biaggio Ali Walsh, who sat out last week’s game with an ankle injury.

Green Valley at Palo Verde The sixth-ranked Gators head on the road and try to bounce back from a 49-31 loss to Centennial last week.

Julian Hulse rushed for 157 against Centennial, but the Gators are averaging just 3.6 yards per carry, and must do a better job of establishing the run.

Palo Verde is expected to continue to try to pound the ball, and the Panthers averaged 6.8 yards per carry in their season opener against Las Vegas.

Eldorado at Chaparral The annual rivalry game played for a bronzed cleat donated by Merlin Olsen. Chaparral has won three of the last four meetings, and the Cowboys look like the team to beat in this one.

Chaparral has scored 88 points in its first two games, and the duo of Santiago Vialpando and Kentrell Petite has been one of the area’s most explosive.

Vialpando has passed for 617 yards and seven TDs, with Petite catching 18 passes for 341 yards and two scores.

Foothill at Arbor View Both of these teams faced off against squads from Utah last week. Things went well for Arbor View, which won 31-6 over Orem.

Foothill wasn’t as fortunate, as the Falcons lost 27-0 to Desert Hills. The Falcons will need a big day out of Blake and Jordan Wilson, who have combined to rush for 386 yards in two games, to stick with the Aggies.

Silverado at Desert Oasis This could be a defensive battle, as both teams have done well on that side of the ball early.

Silverado won 22-0 against Mojave in Week 1 before a bye last week. Desert Oasis has allowed 27 points in two games, but has managed to score only eight.
