Ex-Raiders player Anthony Wayne Smith sentenced to life in prison

Former Oakland Raiders defensive end Anthony Wayne Smith was sentenced on Friday to three consecutive life terms without parole after the killings of two brothers and another man in separate incidents.

The 48-year-old Smith, who was the 11th overall pick by the Raiders in the 1990 draft, was convicted by a Los Angeles County jury of three counts of murder that included turture, kidnapping and multiple murders.

The jury failed to reach a verdict on a fourth murder charge.

In 1999, Smith was accused of kidnapping brothers Ricky and Kevin Nettles from their Los Angeles car wash business before killing them. In 2001, Dennis Henderson was kidnapped from a Los Angeles neighborhood before he was beaten and stabbed him to death.

Smith totaled 57 1/2 sacks and 190 tackles for the Raiders before retiring after the 1997 season.
