UNLV’s Ben Carter considering transferring from basketball team

UNLV forward Ben Carter has the option as a senior graduate to transfer and play at another school right away, but no decision has been made, according to his dad, Mike.

“I’m hoping he stays here,” Mike Carter said. “I know he’s undecided.”

Mike Carter said his son has been concerned with the exodus of so many players that has left the Rebels with a roster of four players, including Ben Carter. But Mike Carter said he and his son were impressed by new UNLV coach Chris Beard.

“We had a great meeting with him,” Mike Carter said. “Ben doesn’t know what he wants to do.

“He wants to win. Coach Beard is all about winning.”

Ben Carter, who graduated from Bishop Gorman High School, began his college career at Oregon. He transferred to UNLV in 2014 before sitting out a season. Ben Carter played 22 games this season, starting seven, and averaged 8.6 points and 6.0 rebounds.

His season ended Jan. 30 against San Diego State when Ben Carter tore his left anterior cruciate ligament. The injury was a devastating blow to the Rebels because Ben Carter was considered a glue to the team.

Mike Carter said his son would begin “light jogging in two or three weeks,” and should be healthy by next season.
