Blick Art Materials grand opening: Blick Art Materials plans to host a grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting for its new retail store at 6300 W. Charleston Blvd. at 9 a.m. Aug. 27. The first 100 guests will receive a gift tote filled with premium art supplies. Blick is also donating $500 to local art organization Push Forward Skateboarding of the Metro Arts Council of Southern Nevada, which works with at-risk youths through art and skateboarding programs. Shop For A Cause: The Women's Club of Summerlin plans to partner with Macy's at Downtown Summerlin for the 10th annual national charity shopping event Aug. 29. Customers can purchase shopping passes for $5 each from the Women's Club of Summerlin for the event created to support local charities' fundraising efforts. The club will keep all of the proceeds from the sale of the shopping passes, which entitle the holder to special discounts on regular, sale and clearance merchandise during the event. Dino Summer: The visiting exhibit is planned at the Springs Preserve, 333 S. Valley View Blvd., through Sept. 20. It is set to feature an animatronic Tyrannosaurus rex and triceratops, interactive video games and a dino bone dig. The attraction is also scheduled to offer a 30-minute live animal show titled "Eat or Be Eaten: Predators and Prey" at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. daily through Aug. 23 and Aug. 29 and 30. The show is set to feature Springs Preserve zoologists and staff members with a rotating cast of animals, including bugs, lizards, snakes and small mammals. Audience members can participate in trivia games to win prizes. A behind-the-scenes tour, offering a chance to get up close with the animals, is planned from noon to 1 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Cosmopolitan art exhibit: The P3Studio artist-in-residence Brent Sommerhauser's exhibit is set for viewing through Sept. 13 at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, 3708 Las Vegas Blvd. South, from 5 to 10 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays and 6 to 11 p.m. Sundays. Sommerhauser plans to introduce guests to kiln-formed glass, demonstrating the process of working with it and allowing them to create small sketches in glass by layering color combinations of glass powder, glass strings and other glass elements over Bullseye handmade glass tiles that Sommerhauser will fire in his Olympic glass kilns. The resulting tiles will be photographed and shared on his Instagram account @P3ArtGlass. Then, the tiles will be combined to contribute to a growing work that will serve as a record of those who participated, filling P3Studio with light, color and pattern. The Henderson Saddle Association fundraising event: The event is set from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 18 at the stables, 6490 Wiesner Way. It is set to include rodeo performances, food, raffles, contests, carnival rides, a petting zoo and live music. Admission is $5 per person or $20 for groups of four or more.
