SUMMERLIN AQUATIC FACILITY BREAKS GROUND

District F Clark County Commissioner Susan Brager and executives from The Howard Hughes Corp. took part in a groundbreaking ceremony April 13 for the Summerlin Aquatic Center, to be located adjacent to Wet’n’Wild, at 7025 S. Fort Apache Road.

The 24,940-square-foot facility, set to be complete by summer 2016, is scheduled to feature a 25-meter-by-25-yard lap pool with an area 9 feet deep where scuba classes can be held, as well as an 1,800-square-foot therapy pool for water aerobics, swimming lessons, physical therapy and other uses. Also planned are a meeting room, men’s and women’s locker rooms and staff offices. The facility is being constructed by Hughes, which will turn it over to Clark County when construction is complete.

“This is going to be an incredible amenity for the people of the southwest part of the valley when it opens next summer,” Brager said. “This facility will allow families to enjoy swimming indoors throughout the year at very reasonable rates.”

Hughes said a cost estimate for the facility’s construction was not available.

FOSTERS NEEDED FOR FUPI ANIMALS

Foreclosed Upon Pets Inc. is in urgent need of foster families for rescued dogs and cats. Fostering plays a major role in the success of the organization. In many circumstances, the animals have come from harsh backgrounds, have been abandoned or have lost their home through no fault of their own.

The foster’s main responsibility is to offer the dog or cat a safe and secure environment. The foster will offer a nurturing background, possibly provide some basic training and consequently help to make the animal a better candidate for adoption.
