Superfruit bowls, smoothies make mouths happy at Acai to the T

Acai to the T is the type of place that makes one forget we’re in the middle of the desert. With its assortment of acai and pitaya bowls, juices and smoothies, customers are transported to an ocean of flavor.

In recent years, acai, a South American palm tree producing small edible blackish-purple berries, has become popular after being labeled one of the highest antioxidant superfruits. Likewise, pitaya, also known as dragonfruit, has a significant source of antioxidants, which scientists have linked to preventing free radical damage that can lead to premature aging and disease.

If the health aspect isn’t enough to lure customers in, the colorful and delicious-looking bowls at the new Centennial Hills location, 5635 Centennial Center Blvd., Suite 110, should do the trick.

Acai and pitaya superbowls offer four options: Hula is made with acai and pitaya, mango, pineapple, banana, peaches and vanilla almond milk and topped with slices of strawberries, bananas and coconut; Ocean is made with acai and pitaya, peaches, mango and strawberries and topped with watermelon, kiwi and strawberries; Green Machine is made with acai and pitaya, spnach, kale and peaches and topped with kiwi, bananas and chia seeds; and the popular PB Lover is made with acai and pitaya, peanut butter, banana, bee pollen, strawberries and chocolate almond milk and topped with bananas, strawberries, chocolate chips and almonds.

The bowls are filling but a bit on the pricy side. The regular size is $7.75, and the large is $9.75.

Smoothies are divided by three sections, which include super smoothies ($8.25), simply smoothies ($5.50), and greens and caffeine ($8.25). For example, the Pink Dragon super smoothie includes pitaya, strawberries, coconut oil, cucumber, dates, turmeric, hemp seeds and watermelon. The Choco Monster simply smoothie is made with chocolate almond milk, bananas, almonds and cocoa powder. For those who need a morning pick-me-up, the Mint Chip greens and caffeine smoothie is made with coffee beans, dates, avocado, cocoa powder, spinach, peppermint drops, vanilla, coconut oil and dark chocolate.

Fresh juices ($6.95) are blended with a nice mixture of vegetables and fruits to include savory and sweet flavors. For example, the Beet Treat is blended with beets, cucumber, apples, lemons and spinach.

The friendly interior is spacious and filled with several tables and a couch. There is also a window for patrons to watch how their orders are made.

While people wait for their orders, they can check out the giant chalkboard that adorns a wall with inspirational sayings and quotes. It’s the type of place that makes one happy to be alive.

Acai to the T is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. There is another location at 10870 W. Charleston Blvd., No. 140.
