Cooler, rainy weather for Thursday in Las Vegas Valley
Las Vegas woke up to thunderstorms and cooler temperatures across the valley Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
A flash-flood watch will remain in effect until 5 a.m. Friday, according to the weather service.
The weather service estimated around 200 cloud-to-ground lightning strikes in the Las Vegas Valley overnight from 8 p.m. Wednesday to 8 a.m. Thursday morning.
Overnight lows dipped to 74 degrees. Thursday’s high was 85 degrees, only three degrees shy of breaking the record “low, high temperature” for July, meteorologist Chris Outler said.
The weather service monitoring station at McCarran International Airport recorded 0.04 of an inch of rain overnight, but the “big winner” of the rainfall was the eastern valley, Outler said. A rain gauge at Lake Mead and Nellis boulevards measured 1.14 inches of rain Thursday morning.
Outler said chances for rain Thursday night are slim. Friday’s chances drop to 20 percent, and Saturday’s chances are virtually zero with sunny skies expected.
Temperatures will warm up through the weekend, with Friday’s high expected to be 102 degrees and a high of 105 degrees forecast for Saturday and Sunday.
