Las Vegas headed to a nice, warm weekend

Weather in the Las Vegas Valley "is going to be nice" this weekend, according to National Weather service meteorologist Chad Shafer.

Skies will be mostly sunny, winds will be light, temperatures will rise, and there is "no chance for rain anywhere, including the mountains," Shafer said.

Friday's forecast high is 71 degrees with a low near 48, according to the Weather Service.

Temperatures will continue to rise with a 72-degree high on Saturday and a 76-degree high on Sunday, Shafer said. Lows are expected to be in the low 50s.

By Sunday, high temperatures will be about 10 degrees above average and low temperatures will be about 5 degrees above average.

Winds are expected to pick up from the north on Monday and will be between 10 and 20 mph with stronger gusts in most of the valley. The National Weather Service urges boaters to use caution if in the Colorado River Valley Sunday and Monday as winds could be hazardous.

Friday's winds topped out at 45 mph at McCarran International Airport, 47 mph at North Las Vegas and Henderson airports, and 52 mph at Nellis Air Force Base, Shafer said. Winds were the strongest in the Mount Charleston area with several reports of gusts between 55 and 65 mph.
