Hoover Dam bypass bridge opens

Motorists traveling between Arizona and Nevada now find themselves being whisked across the Colorado River via the O’Callaghan-Tillman bypass bridge, which allows drivers to avoid the more dangerous and time-consuming switchbacks near Hoover Dam. The 1,900-foot-long bridge opened to traffic late Tuesday night.

Beginning in January, most city employees will go to a four-day, 9.5-hour-a-day work week under contract concessions approved Wednesday by the Las Vegas City Council. Some departments will continue to operate on Fridays, including the Municipal Court, public works, parks and recreation, and graffiti abatement and code enforcement.

The 76-year-old actress, a fan of the hit ABC show since it premiered, was dismissed from the ballroom Tuesday. Henderson shocked many of her “Brady Bunch” fans with her sassy antics during her five weeks on “Dancing.” She flashed her bra and abs during the season’s premiere episode.

Police say robbers beat teacher who died after being struck by vehicle

Dedicated to his craft and community, Timothy VanDerbosch, an Eldorado High School science teacher, lived in an apartment a mile from campus and walked to work early each morning to get a jump on daily lesson plans. That is where he was headed at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday when he was struck by a passing vehicle after being targeted in what Las Vegas police described as “a brutal and violent robbery.”
