Retired Hawaiian couple lays down roots at One Las Vegas

When Stella Yasuda opens the front door to her One Las Vegas eighth-floor home, there’s an irresistible cascade of sunlight from the expansive windows framing an almost 360-degree sweeping view of the Las Vegas Valley.

The two-bedroom, two-bath condo she shares with her husband, Brian, is spacious, open and inviting. And, once the couple is settled in and all the boxes are unpacked, Stella plans to decorate in warm turquoise hues that will wrap the rooms, accenting the light hardwood floors.

“This is very different from our single-family home in Oahu, Hawaii,” Stella said. “We love the carefree high-rise lifestyle.”

The Yasudas bought their new One Las Vegas home in April after viewing several single-family homes and townhouses. “We wanted something airy, bright and especially low-maintenance,” Stella said. “One Las Vegas fit that bill perfectly.”

In August, Brian and Stella officially moved in. “For years, we’ve been vacationing in Las Vegas while living and raising a family in Hawaii. Now that we’re retired and the kids are grown, we’ll be experiencing Las Vegas full-time and vacationing at our home in Oahu,” Stella said. “We love that our new home is so close to the airport. It takes some of the hassle out of traveling.”

The couple also have a goal to visit all 50 U.S. states.

“Living on the mainland makes that a lot easier than having to cross the Pacific,” she said. Stella and Brian will soon be off to explore California and then onto Portland, Oregon. They plan to visit their daughter in Arizona and then onto Virginia, where their son is in the military.

“We can just close the door and leave,” said Stella, acknowledging the couple’s confidence in the One Las Vegas 24-hour security, maintenance and concierge staffs to take good care of their new home.

While in town, Brian plans to hit the links while Stella wants to stretch her artistic soul by taking painting lessons.

“There’s so much to do right here on property. We haven’t attended the poolside movie nights yet, but it’s been fun to watch from our balcony,” she said. “We especially enjoy the outdoor view of the mountains. There is something very serene and calming about it.”

One Las Vegas homes range from 831 to 2,857 square feet with many floor plans offering spectacular views of the mountains and the Strip. One-bedroom homes are priced from the low $200,000s; two-bedroom homes from the high $200,000s; and three-bedroom homes from the low $400,000s. The penthouse, offering 3,000 square feet of sweeping views, is priced at $1.1 million.

One Las Vegas is close to Interstate 15, the 215 Beltway and just minutes from McCarran International Airport. Town Square, just a few blocks north of the property, provides one-stop shopping and scores of dining and entertainment options right in the neighborhood.
