3 Las Vegas officers hurt in police chase

Updated July 13, 2025 - 1:25 am

Three Metropolitan Police Department officers were taken to a hospital Saturday night after authorities said a stolen U-Haul box truck intentionally slammed into a police vehicle.

A man was taken into custody after a pursuit that started around 7:15 p.m. when police noticed the truck driving erratically in the 1200 block of Newport Street, according to Deputy Chief Esmeralda Boveda. The truck rammed into a police vehicle and drove away.

The officers’ injuries were minor, Boveda said.

The ensuing chase led police to various areas of the valley, and the northbound lanes of Interstate 11 near Las Vegas Boulevard remained closed early Sunday morning.

A heavy police presence blocked traffic near South Eastern Avenue and East Charleston Boulevard near the area where police stopped the truck on Saturday night.

Charleston Boulevard also was closed from Eastern Avenue to Fremont Street, along with parts of Fremont Street.

The driver is expected to be charged with multiple felonies, Boveda said.
