2016 Colorado truck drawing big interest at Findlay Chevrolet

In true truck country, the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado not only looks good, but it is also multifaceted.

Since arriving at Findlay Chevrolet in the southwest valley in September, the popular Colorado truck has been selling well as General Motors continues its delivery of its latest models.

With four trim levels, a base model is available with a six-speed manual transmission with a two-wheel drive extended cab.

The work truck version of the Colorado is also available with a six-speed manual transmission, with either a four- or six-cylinder engine and two-wheel drive.

The LT comes with either a crew cab or extended cab with a long or short bed. The short bed is 5 feet 1 inch while the long bed is 6 feet 1 inch. The LT is available with the Chevrolet MyLink 8-inch color touch screen.

The Z71 is also available with a crew or extended cab with top of the line amenities and off-road suspension package. It is available with either two- or four-wheel drive.

New for 2016 is the Apple Car Play and the Android Auto which transfers some of the icons from a smartphone to the MyLink screen for easy operation and less driving distractions.

Lauded as the 2016 Motor Trend Truck of the Year, the Colorado features a four-cylinder, 200-horsepower package while the 305 horsepower six-cylinder engine can tow up to 7,000 pounds.

Mileage ratings range from 19 city to 26 highway for the four cylinder while the six cylinder provides 17 city and 24 highway.

Also available with each Colorado is On-Star with 4G LTE in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot; Siri Eyes Free text message alerts and best-in-class max trailer towing.

"This truck has been incredibly popular," said George Rippe, sales consultant. "Since day one, we have had a difficult time keeping them in stock."

With increased production by General Motors, inventory levels have increased at Findlay Chevrolet.

"The Colorado works for everyone from a construction worker to an off-road enthusiast," said Rippe, a former construction worker who has been in the car business for more than 2½ years.

Fellow sales consultant Matt Masluk concurred with Rippe.

"It looks good," said 44 year-old Masluk, a native of Boulder City. "There is a big need for a smaller truck and the Colorado fits the bill.

A 2.8-Liter Duramax turbo/diesel with a six-speed automatic transmission will be available in the first quarter of 2016 featuring a 181-horsepower engine with 369 pounds of torque. The diesel will offer up to 31 miles to the gallon on highway driving.

"No competitor offers a diesel in a midsize pickup," said sales manager George Herold. "In fact, some of our customers have already ordered the diesel."

Headed by General Manager Jamaal McCoy, Findlay Chevrolet is at 6800 S. Torrey Pines Drive between Rainbow and Jones boulevards off the 215 Beltway.
