Review-Journal taps circulation, audience development director

The Las Vegas Review-Journal has named George Cherayil as director of circulation and audience development.

The India native only just arrived in Las Vegas on Sunday, but he said the position is a "good opportunity" and he's ready to get started.

"I want to provide good service to the customers," Cherayil said.

In his new position Cherayil is responsible for all circulation distribution and sales functions. He also will oversee the Review-Journal's digital audience development programs.

Cherayil, 44, reports directly to Review-Journal Publisher Bob Brown.

Before coming to the Review-Journal, Cherayil's most recent position was circulation sales and retention manager for The Oklahoman in Oklahoma City, where he worked for five years. Before that Cherayil worked for the Lawrence Journal-World in Lawrence, Kan., and Gannett in Des Moines, Iowa.

He's been in the newspaper industry since 1991, after earning his master's in business administration from the University of Calicut and his undergraduate degree in chemistry from St. Berchman's College, both in India. While still in India, Cherayil worked for a newspaper akin to USA Today, Indian Experts.

His wife, Sindhu, and two children, Anu and Vinu, are still in Oklahoma City, but Cherayil plans to move them out West soon.

"I need to find a house," he said.
