Spring Valley Hospital officials topped out a four-story tower on Thursday.
Construction on the tower began in June. The new tower will add up to 144 beds to the existing 237-bed facility.
The expansion will offer a dedicated entrance for all maternity patients and visitors, and add three labor and delivery suites, three neonatal intensive care beds and 18 post-partum beds with space for 18 more on the first floor. The second floor will provide another 36 medical/surgical inpatient beds. The remaining floors will eventually accommodate 72 more beds, as needed.
Other major hospital projects include development of a 24-bed observation unit to care for patients who aren't ready to be admitted or discharged and the completion of a cardiac catheterization lab. The latter is used to perform procedures such as balloon angioplasty for patients who have suffered a heart attack.
